Everest base camp trekking“We don’t only hike through mountains & valleys, our venture is an avenue that goes through traditional Sherpa villages and 'gompas' (monasteries), we observe the pure mountain Buddhist culture and their holy peaks and valleys. This is also a deeply spiritual region that is evident in the multicolored gompas we see on the way; & the congenial village folks just simply make us feel at home, & all this in the backdrops of the lord of all peaks…the mighty Mt. Everest…as our trek culminates at the foothills of the Everest Base Camp…this trip is a beauty!

This trip takes us into the heart of the Sherpa highlands where we spend the cold nights in cosy mountain lodges & enjoy apple pie after supper as we walk on paths that were used by legends in the years gone by; hiking through Sherpa terrain past cultivated fields & hamlets dotted by little villages as you view Mt. Everest and other breath taking silver grey peaks that glisten in the sunshine. The moment we hop of our STOL plane at Hillary’s Lukla airstrip, our trek begins as we walk by the banks of the Dudh Kosi {river of milk}, taking in the lovely landscapes on the way to Namche bazaar, the bustling & hustling capital of the Khumbu; & we hold up for some much needed acclimatisation before we start the slog above the tree-lines where the landscapes are austere but nevertheless, amazing. On our way, we come across the famous Thyangboche monastery which is a virtual haven for the camera artist as it lies nestled in the backdrops of Ama Dablam, Everest & other gigantic peaks. Since we’ve already properly acclimatized en-route, we clamber for the EBC which falls on the Khumbu glacier & also go up Kalapathar at {5545m}, this is the highest spot on the trip for outstanding & mesmerising views of an array of glistening peaks and the Khumbu glacier including Mt. Everest that seems so close but yet so far, but this is the closest you get to this master peak. After reaching the Everest Base Camp near the great Khumbu Ice Fall our wonderful venture concludes at Lukla for the scenic flight back to Kathmandu. This trip can be done solo & with groups too; you don’t have to be a veteran climber for this trip, it’s for anyone & everyone, however, it’s more helpful if you are a good walker & used to arduous hiking at different elevations.
