Charity in Nepal is one of the most essential issues for under developed countries in any part of the world; especially so much for a country like Nepal because of its difficult geographical settings, limited access to development, inadequate resources and overall lack of awareness amongst the people with a higher illiteracy rate.
With this kept in mind at all times in the course of its transactions, Encounters Nepal always ensures that 5% of its total profit must be donated to a charity that works for environmental protection, disabled people, war victimized children, with more focus on education and health. Little drops with the vision to create an ocean.
Since we are an eco-tourism service provider operating a travel/trekking agency, we want to preserve our environment by reducing more plastics from our clients who are on their holidays in Nepal's various mountains. We supply them safe and purified water instead of bottled water. We send our Guides to training programs and eco-workshops throughout Nepal, which enables them to understand about importance of the environment they work in. Thus, we intend to give some kind of awareness message in the conservation of natural resources to the local people through areas that our Guides walk across. A simple example is they can ask people to reduce cutting down of trees for fuel but use kerosene or solar system. This is a part of our charity initiatives we endeavor to keep up with to reduce the impact to the environment from our clients. We have an association with KEEP (Kathmandu Environmental Educational Project) for such projects.
At the same time, we felt we should support the other areas too in the field of education and health. We give this charity to local organizations that are working particularly in these fields. We would like our guests to know that we are supporting a school in the Upper Mustang region, a remote outpost in the Himalayan region. Should you find it in your hearts to make small worthy contributions, we have numerous children who need a sponsorship in the different regions of Nepal that we work in. Their families have no source of income to pay for their education. And we don't have a free and compulsory education at all. A generous contribution, however small; will make a huge difference & enlighten the life of a helpless child, ensuring his future for generations.
The following are the objectives of our Charity:
- To organize various programs in upgrading the standards of health and education of different communities
- To ensure a favorable environment for poor students to pursue or to continue their studies
- To organize & to co-ordinate free health camps in communities according to their needs
- To develop a cordial relationship with various donors and donor organizations at the national and international level

A confirmed 5% of our profit is separated for charity development at any cost. This charity is donated to the local organizations every year during our annual celebration.

We invite both national and international students, scholars, and tourists who are interested in helping in our initiative through volunteering. We offer a variety of volunteer programs depending upon the candidates' requirements and personal interests.
The volunteer programs are designed for volunteers to acquire and share their knowledge, gain experience and develop their skills. Upon completion of the program participants will be issued a certificate of successful attendance stating their work experience and personal progress.
Current volunteering opportunities available:
Though Encounters Nepal has been working in the field of environmental and cultural awareness in various parts of Nepal since 2004, we seek to It launch a ‘Clean and Green Environmental Campaign’ in various parts of Nepal focusing on Community Based Forest and Environmental issues. We wish to start this program in collaboration with various schools and communities in areas that we work in. The programs are based in the Forest of Katmandu, Dhading, Gorkha and Syangja districts of Nepal. We are currently extending our eco-management volunteer programs to other Himalayan regions such as Tibet, Bhutan and Pakistan, too.
Currently, we are recruiting volunteers for the following programs:
* Garbage program
* Coffee and Asparagus Project
* Improved oven project
* Goat breeding project
* Culture based programs (to organize folk songs competition)
* Planting of saplings in various Community Based Forests.
* Community Based Forest Research
* Environmental awareness and waste management campaign in various schools under our control.
* Building sanitation (toilets and taps) or school compounds in various needy schools in the rural areas of Nepal.
Volunteer program periods vary according to your personal preferences; generally it is more fruitful for both parties if volunteers stay over a period of at least 6 months.
Volunteer programs are available throughout the year. We do have many projects, where you could volunteer one of the above project, otherwise, if you are looking for a custom tailored volunteering program don't hesitate to e-mail us, we will design a volunteer program that perfectly matches your requirements. We seek to put you in areas familiar to you so that this will give you more joy in your volunteering work with us.
Cost and other information for Volunteering in Nepal:
Encounters Nepal, in the course of its charity work is truly a non profit making organization and its motive is to help the truly needy people of Nepal. Since you are coming to support all the work we are doing and we support to do, we have no administration cost on your volunteering cost. You only need to cover your local transportation and food and lodging. These types of cost can be covered by more or less US$ 15 to US$ 20 on a per day basis. Lets say if you wish to volunteer for one week in our "Goat Breeding Project", your total cost will be approx US$120./ + your local transportation to go there and return, which is about US$ 20 with return.
If you are first time in Nepal and this is your first volunteer work, then our program coordinator may need to assist you in this case you need to pay his expenses which cost almost the same as you intend to spend. Apart of paying his food accommodations and transportations, you do not need to pay any extra fee for assisting you.
During your volunteering period, you will eat local food and sleep locally. Of course our coordinator will arrange suitable place to sleep and help villagers to cook food. It is simple and I am sure apart of the volunteer, you even enjoy your time with locals.
Some of our volunteer areas are very remote and these local people may not have place to sleep, so we provide even tented camp and we prepare food. This case your expenses will be higher than above.
